Our Lady of Fatima Food Bank Ministry
When a person's family ties are broken, some of the saddest days of the year can be the "happy holidays." But the hard work and vision of one parish in Lakewood, CO, has helped put the women of the Julia Greeley Home in a festive mood during two major holidays, Thanksgiving and Easter.
The Food Bank Ministry at Our Lady of Fatima Parish involves more than 200 parishioners. Twice a year, right before Thanksgiving and Easter, these generous individuals set aside their own busy schedules to buy scores of boxes of non-perishable foods, supplemented by gift cards, and then organize their distribution among individuals and the organizations which serve the homeless, impoverished or those without resources.
We at the Julia Greeley Home were thrilled to be invited to join this well-established ministry in time for Thanksgiving 2015. The ministry organizers are a hardworking married couple from the parish, Stan Collins and Mary Herzogenrath. They found out about Julia's through Deacon Joe Hawley, to whom we are very grateful as well. The generous spirits of people like Mary, Stan, Deacon Joe make a difference. They light the way for people who have temporarily lost their way, and who believe that no one cares. (Surprise! They do.)
